My TrakInvest performance for March 2016

Trak Invest is an online virtual portfolio. A virtual portfolio starts with 5 million rupees.

I started using Trak invest on March 2, 2016 when the NIFTY was at 7368.85 points. Yesterday, the NIFTY was at 7678.08 points which is a gain of 4.19 percent.

I only managed to gain 0.14 percent in one month with an alpha of  -4.05. In financial terms, an alpha is the difference between a portfolio and its benchmark. In my case, my benchmark for the Indian markets is the NIFTY.

The negative alpha surprised me because on my MoneyBhai portfolio (which was deleted without warning by MoneyBhai) I had an alpha of over 11 percent in January 2016 since I started my MoneyBhai portfolio in August 2015.

Well I'll know in 6 months or a year whether I have a very positive alpha. The combination of fundamental analysis to pick strong, growing companies and the combination of technical analysis to decide when to enter and exit such companies should lead to a very positive alpha over the years.
